A fine Sam Elliott performance in a rare leading role (hence the generous 3-star rating) wasted on a lousy script. He plays Lee Hayden, a western-film actor on the far side of his career and his life, looking back with regret. Director Brett Haley's screenplay offers too many clichés and unbelievable plot elements -- not the least of which is Hayden's romance with a stand-up comedian (!) young enough to be his daughter. Elliott deserves so much better.
