I am rarely happy with authors of fiction about WWII because of historical errors. That, I am happy to say, was not the case with Billy Boyde. I found the setting involving an Allied invasion of Norway particularly interesting as I was raised in Norwegian family, had 7 uncles and a father who fought in WWII, plus remember stories of attempts to get food packages to relatives in Norway. Unfortunately at least one cousin starved to death.... That said I have also read the book The Shetland Bus: A WWII Epic of Escape, Survival, and Adventure by David Howarth which was so well depicted in the mystery. It was a system of largely Norwegian fishing boats plus other Allied craft which ferried people in and out of Norway after the Nazi invasion - commandos in and out and air crews out of the occupation zone. Storms were often good cover from Nazi patrols but dangerous for heavy seas. In addition I am currently reading: I Saw It Happen in Norway by C.J. Hambro. He was President of the Norwegian Parliament President of the Assembly of the League of Nations. The book was written in 1940 - I have the hardcover of the first edition, so it is fun to see the old Hennepin Country check-out folder and record - the book was first checked out on December 16, 1943... Then with the excellent historical knowledge of "Billy Boyle" there is also an intriguing mystery with a great twist. I am looking forward to more books in the series. Kristi & Abby Tabby
