With the emphasis on 'secret', we see how the great democracy to the south has and continues to operate behind what the author describes as, 'democracy's masquerade'.
(p.328) I was unaware of how many of the 'great' families in the U.S. made their fortunes peddling opium to the Chinese, FDR's family for one.
This book surprised me in that I was expecting a jingoistic version of events but was instead pleasantly informed by how the author paints a picture of American (and others) foreign policy that explains so much about our world today. Well written and I recommend this to all.
