Batman has been gone for 10 years. Gotham seems to have deteriorated without his guiding hand. But when Bruce Wayne is mugged on the way home from meeting with his old friend James Gordon, he finds himself frozen, unable to fight back. This causes him to bring back Batman and declare war on the criminals of Gotham. But times have changed and the powers that be are even less enthusiastic about a masked vigilante roaming the streets. A classic of modern graphic novels, the Frank Miller story is full of violence and blood. Familiar characters return, aged and battered by the time that has passed and the lives they have lived. There is no doubt that this book changed modern comics, and much of what we have seen at the box office when it comes to superhero movies can be traced back to this tome. You can not call yourself a comics fan and not have read this book.
