Looking at the story itself, I thought it was great. The plot was not something I have seen in previous books. The characters' personalities and settings of the book made it come to life. Especially for me, since I don't live far from Brighton and also speak Russian. I could see how the author wanted this story to be simple, yet original, however, I thought the time lapse of the book changed too quickly and in some parts, too slow. Like, in the beginning, when Vaclav was ten and Lena was nine. After about eighty or so pages, they both suddenly turned fifteen. Then after a rough estimate of fifteen pages, the characters turned seventeen. I also thought the ending of the book was very usual. Not something that was unexpected-- wrong. It WAS something that was unexpected, because I thought there would be MORE to it. Something that would put a smile on the readers face, or something that would give the reader a sigh of relief. The ending of the book, (spoiler alert if you didn't read it), was that Lena, on her seventeenth birthday, called Vaclav. My one thought while reading that part was, "Why didn't you call him earlier Lena?!" I understand that the author wanted the story's ending to be something that could happen to everyone, and that it wasn't like a fantasy love story, but why couldn't the author put some "umph" into it, and let's say, "make the characters bump into each other without realizing who either one of them was, and then coming to the same spot over and over again, just to see if that was who they thought it was." So the ending to me, wasn't at all great. The story had me almost on the edge of my seat, until I got to the ending. The ending was completely plain. Just like a bagel with no cream cheese, or no butter. But the plot, I thought, was amazing! It's just that it should've had a little more editing.
