Director Ernest Lubitsch, you are amazing. You took the story of the Hugo Matuscheck & Company leather store and made one of the best love stories put to film. Of course, Jimmy Stewart and Margret Sullivan made an interesting couple. They are sales clerks at the store that is owned by Hugo Matuscheck played by lovable Frank Morgan. This 1940 movie could take place today, the time and place of the shop is unimportant. Love works in strange ways some times and this is a story of just such a time. Wonderful script, directing and acting that will be the gold standard of love stories for generations to come. P.S. "The Shop Around the Corner" was picked one of the All "Time Magazines" 100 Best Films.
