A week before Memorial Day, the nation's capital is buzzing with preparations for the unveiling of the new World War II memorial. Despite the hopeful energy of the city, Mitch Rapp senses trouble. A spike in CIA intelligence has pointed to a major terrorist attack on America. Rapp leaves for Afghanistan, where he leads a special forces unit on a commando raid into Pakistan, seizing an al-Qaeda stronghold and discovering a treasure trove of evidence pointing to plans for a catastrophic nuclear attack on Washington, D.C. Information is quickly relayed back to CIA headquarters, and the freighters at the heart of the scheme are located and disarmed. The danger has been averted. Or has it? Unable to shake the feeling that the operation seemed too easy, Mitch follows his instincts on a quest for the whole truth.

An excellent, action packed and hard to put down novel substantiating Mitch Rapp’s intuition, confidence, and superior qualities. Irene Kennedy’s attributes segregates her from authority figures with her exceptional skills of apprehending her employee’s capabilities providing the required support. The CIA’s infrastructure and abilities were astounding. The counterterrorism agencies’ expertise in handling the terrorist makes the story somewhat interesting; and Mitch’s insights to prove them wrong is astonishing. His ability to withstand verbal accusations and pledge his convictions makes him a unique individual. Rapp’s treatment of the prisoners and realistic fury to punish the malevolence is commendable considering the past devastation that had shocked the world.

Action-packed and riveting! Mitch Rapp employs his exceptional interrogation "techniques" (which would make Dick Cheney proud) to save thousands of lives and the city of Washington, D.C., from annihilation, despite butting heads with politicians and bureaucrats. A five-star read.
