I kept plugging along, thinking the narrative was going to finally happen. It didn't until 90% through the audiobook. The history of basketball, play by play court moves, along with the life of a refugee player was painstakingly spelled out for nine hours. I will advise others to skip this book.

This is a novel on the journey of a teen who gains an athletic scholarship to play college basketball in USA, away from his civil war torn home. I give up after 50 pages. Unlike the author's other short fiction, 2012 Calico Joe (198 pages) about a baseball hitter in the MLB, this novel is thicker (368 pages) ... too long for this spectator sports fan.

Note: Sooley is from Sudan which is also the home country of Manute Bol, the 7 ft 6 in - 7 ft 7 NBA player between 1985–1995, and a political activist. He died at age 47 in 2010.

Dear NB: I am so grateful for the courteous and professional librarians. The service I have received has been outstanding; 2 thumbs up; *****

Our libraries have figured out a way to give us the books we crave and keep us safe.

Perhaps, you should stop complaining/criticizing and look beyond the end of your nose. John Grisham books are always in high demand and able to disappear from a shelf in seconds.

Grisham does the story of an underdog so well, and in this case it is a young man trying to escape from the war-torn villages of rural South Sudan, on the wings of a dream to play collegiate basketball in the United States. A Cinderella story, but with some shocking twists.

I went to Kentwood Branch to get an available copy. Got nothing but a run around about when it might be there. Now the record shows it is due in, as it is at other branches. Your patrons deserve better service for the taxes we are paying.

Please add the publisher release date to this record. It is more important to me to know the release date than most of the other information on this page. I could care less about all the "tags", the "community opinions", the "videos" and other such nonsense. I want to know when it is hitting the shelves. But it turns out, I still have to go to another website to find that out. What a bummer.
