I enjoyed this mystery very much. The relationship between Lenox and his faithful valet reminded me of the great Lord Peter Wimsey and his Bunter. Highly recommend this mystery which is kind of a prequel to the series. I am looking forward to more books in the saga. Kristi & Abby Tabby

An excellent prequel. A very enjoyable read.
Charles Finch has a way of writing that allows the reader to be transported back in time to Victorian England! The Charles Lennox series of mysteries is well worth reading. All the characters throughout the series are well done, especially Charles and Graham. In this prequel he also has his first meeting with Dr McConnell who becomes one of his dearest friends in later books. Of course the author didn't forget Elizabeth/Jane, Charles' lady love!
