BOMB!!!!! Whatever Ionesco intended can't be found anywhere inside this vulgar, witless, idiotic, low-budget adaptation. Julian Barry's disgraceful script trashes the satiric edge of the material as Tom O'Horgan's so-called direction flattens everything out. Mostel and Wilder have a flicker here and there -- milliseconds of grace that they bring to this idiot tragedy -- but no inflection or gesture can save this horrid mess or justify sitting through it. This pitiful, pathetic, ugly fiasco more than earns its status as one of the worst movies ever made.
