Highly recommend. I’m just learning about the Civil War and have read more than a few books, but this is the first one from the viewpoint of the Confederates.

It’s short, so take a day or afternoon and read up about Jefferson Davis as the confederate Commander in Chief ...it flows fast and interesting.

I now understand in Hearts Touched By Fire (first hand recollections from CW commanders, about 20 after the war ended... which every Civil War buff should read/listen to) the tension between Joseph Johnston and Davis, which I wasn’t previously aware of.

NOTE: the author assumes the reader knows the battles and the generals. NOT a book for novices.
