“Wonder” is a heartfelt and touching movie about a child with an at-birth face defect and how he and his surrounding family and friends counter through the struggles they face. I was first introduced to the book version of this movie in fifth grade, and then the sixth. Getting the opportunity to discover the underlying stigmatization and distress that August went through as a child, at a young age myself, taught me to always be informed and never judge a book by its cover as I’m sure it did for everyone else that read it. On the technical side of things, I especially loved how the story didn’t only focus on his difficulties, but his sister’s and other family members’ as well. That made this movie 10x more realistic and down-to-earth. Props to R. J. Palacio for spinning together such an inspiring and thoughtful novel-to-be-movie that echoes and gives representation to those who struggle with similar issues on a daily basis. Rating 5/5

I was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed this movie. I was not a fan of the book in any capacity, but the movie was phenomenal. One of the few instances where I would say the movie surpasses the book.

A so-so movie. Given the premise, the plot was fairly predictable. The parent actors were over-cast; Owen Wilson was too young and not a believable father; Julia Roberts was just too old, playing a role that seemed tailor-made for Jennifer Gardner (thank God she did not play another one of her typical sensitive mother roles). The main boy actor was OK, but in the long run, a forgettable performance. The only interesting characters were the sister, her boyfriend, and her best friend. It's a good movie for kids to see the destructive power of bullying and how to fight it. But this movie will eventually fade away from my memory with no staying impact.

Took my 9 year-old grandson to see this one at the theatre and we both enjoyed it. Nice to see something other than comic book action heroes or endless sequels and prequels of Star Wars etc. This in many ways reminds me of the movie Mask from years ago (starring Cher and Eric Stoltz) though of course Mask is much harsher producing tears of sadness rather than of joy.

Directed by Stephen Chbosky in 2017 based on the 2012 novel of the same name by R.J. Palacio, this American drama depicts the life of a child with Treacher Collins syndrome.
The ugly-faced kid struggles to fit in this world despite the peer pressure and his own psychological block.
It is an inspiring and uplifting movies for kids as well as adults.

Such a fantastic movie!! Safe for all ages though I would think 5+ years old would actually enjoy it. Should be shown to all kids - such a great lesson in empathy!
