I loved the premise of this book, as a New Yorker and Brooklynite, I enjoyed mention of familiar places. However, it was not scary at all and Susan did some questionable things that did not make any sense. Also she looked for answers in one book, I would have preferred it if she actually went about finding the previous occupants of the apartment, and slowly unraveled the mystery through other sources. I did find the book interesting enough to finish it tho, which is rare for me these days.

Winters really creeped me out with this story, as was his intent. Susan and Alex don't adhere to the warnings about things that are too good to be true. As they settle in to their new apartment, Susan's mental state quickly declines with help from their weird landlady and some bedbugs. That's right, bedbugs; the NYC plague of a while back:) If you're easily spooked about all things insectile, don't read this one without a light on. It's intense, fast-paced, and full of fun horror movie scenes; B horror movie (unless they use CGI).

Don't read this book in bed! You will definitely get the creepy crawlies reading this book. It is well worth reading if you have the stomach for it as Ben Winters weaves his sinister tale.

Full of (unintentionally) goofy cliches. Not terribly scary. I found the family in the story so irritating that I started rooting for the bugs.

Awesome book, the tale of a woman's slow descent into insanity. I love how everything in her life falls apart so rapidly. A fun fast read.

I loved this book.

When I got this book, I didn't realize it was going to be a horror novel with gruesome and descriptive scenes. At first, it just seemed like a decent summer read novel - nothing complex, simple language, run of the mill characters; then it turns dark. Even the darkness isn't very well done - not evocative but...silly. Wouldn't recommend it.
