There is so much going on in this story, and so many characters to follow. I do like how the author goes back in history and brings the audience relevance information to the present. I am really enjoying this book and will try to listen to others that are available by this author.

Loved the way Brooks used the concept of a book's provenance to walk backward in time and share vignettes of various characters in different times, places and circumstances. While this is a work of fiction, I definitely learned some real things about history and human struggle, and it's sparked an interest to learn more.

Generally I like all her books, but this one will have to grow on me with a repeated read. The narrator is not top of my list.

The audiobook must have been rousing as I found the print copy to be unusually trite. Could have been an interesting premise but the main character was so marginally developed it was hard to care much whatever happened. Too bad the author didn't use time/energy to further develop the young jewess taken in by the Muslim family.

I consider myself an audio book addict, so I have heard many narrations of books. I was amazed with the narrator...even my boyfriend commented on it. All of these comments about the book are spot on! Great story. I also loved her book The year of Wonders, although this was very different. If you haven't read it, you should check it out.

Interesting concept - like the Red Violin of books. Reader was very good!

I agree, the narrator was brilliant. She really brought the book to life with her intonations and accents. I'm positive I enjoyed this book more as an audio book.
