If you've a story, make sure it's a whole one, with details close to hand. It's the difference between a good lie and getting caught.

Add a CommentAly is the daughter of the King's Champion and the King's Spymaster, but will they let her put her skills to the test in the outside world? Nope. So it's up the God of Tricksters to get her out of the house and onto a pirate slave ship bound for the Copper Isles. There Aly is charged with the task of protecting a family of the royal line and seeing to it that the Copper Isles undergo a thorough revolution that will shift the power for future generations.
Simple.
Aly proves to be a brilliantly sly heroine that you absolutely have to love. She is no struggling novice in over her head and relying on luck. Every move is calculated. Every choice made with purpose. With trickery and crows on her side, freeing the people of the Copper Isles is a fast-paced, adventurous cinch.
This is probably my favorite of all Tamora Pierce's series. Some of my friends think it's too long and boring, but I think it has more depth than the rest. There is one and a half whole books building up to the climax, and that means there are more details, more little things you might not notice at first glance but later make you laugh, or have a big revelation moment. This series seems so much more intricate and complicated, and thought out really well. Five stars for sure!!
I read this as a young girl, obsessed with Tamora Pierce, and was largely bored. Now that I'm older, I love the complex, slightly more adult plot (in comparison to the circle opens, or Alana). There's a bit of white savior narrative, but Pierce clearly works hard to interweave and value different cultures. I really enjoyed it.
I've liked all of Tamora Pierce's books that I've read and this is one of the best. The main character is the daughter of Alanna, heroine of the Lioness Quartet. Aly is very different than her mother, but another awesome heroine. The characters are all interesting and I can't wait to read the next one to find out what happens.
Tammy writes against type in this book, which follows after the "Lioness" and "Protector of the Small" series. Alianne is Alana's daughter, and she is looking to DO something with her life, and not be forever in the shadow of her famous mother. Her father is the king's Spymaster, and she thinks she would make an excellent spy but her parents think it is too dangerous. Fate interferes in the form of a Trickster God and Alianne is literally blown into harm's way. Can she prove that she is the spy she always thought herself to be? A story of gods, mad kings, racism, slavery, classism, and magic Trickster's Choice is a fascinating novel set in the Tortal world. Fans of Pierce will enjoy the continuing series, and those brand- new will enjoy the well-developed characters and fascinating locals.
Tamora Pierce rocks so hard! The main character in this one is the daughter of a spymaster who is thrown into the political turmoil of a foreign country when she is captured and sold as a slave.
This was the most innovative book I have had the chance to read in a long time.
Packed with mysteries, adventure and a very uncommon heroine.
Of course there are some political subjects in the story, yet it did not take are attention away from the characters. On the contrary, it makes us love and embrace their pain and struggles as the story unfolds itself. And if you thought that there wasn't a book that had good comebacks and sarcasm within the dialog, well then you were wrong!
I would strongly recommend this book for all those of you who would like to see the difference between a girl who can't do much, to the girl who was born to perform. This book will leave you on edge and begging for it's ending.
I hope you think so to, so enjoy!
Fantastic book! Another hidden gem I found in a random scan of another library's shelves. This book is part of the larger Tortall Books collection, which showcases a land rich in magic, spies, intrigue, splashes of romance and lots of action - with strong female characters. First of Ms. Pierce's works I've read, this has made me an instant fan.
Another great Tortall book from Tamora Pierce with her trademark strong female characters. A little to political for my taste, but good nontheless.
