The winter of 1887-88 was one of the warmest on record—but that changed dramatically on March 11 when two storms collided. The resulting four-day blizzard brought New York City, along with much of the East Coast, to a standstill, killing approximately 800 people in New York City alone, and changed the way that cities deal with snow.
