A twelve-year-old girl and her younger brother go on the run in the woods of northern Idaho, pursued by four men they have just watched commit murder--four men who know exactly who the children are, and where their desperate mother is waiting patiently by the phone for news of her children's fate. In a ranching community increasingly populated by L.A. transplants living in gaudy McMansions, the kids soon find they don't know whom they can trust among the hundreds of retired Southern California cops who've given the area its nickname: "Blue Heaven."

Blue Heaven is so titled because that’s what retired cops from LA call the area of Idaho that’s the setting for this novel. What happens when some of these cops are not only crooked but murderers? Box has assembled key plot elements; crooked cops, an aging rancher with distinguished military service, kids on the run after witnessing a murder, and an honest cop looking to solve an old crime. Box brings it all together leading up to a thunderous climax.

C J Box writes very well, but there was too much violence in this book.

This was my first C.J. Box book I read. I liked this very much. Hard to put down and I finished in very quickly.
