My two kids and I read this book together as a read-aloud. Wonderfully written and approachable for my 7 1/2 year old and 9 year old. The book was intended for kids as an introduction. While it is not an exhaustive book about Carson's life, it has whetted the appetite for my children to learn more about him, and about other amazing people who have overcome tremendous odds. I give it 5 stars!
I have a lot of respect for Ben Carson. He's a brilliant doctor and extremely learned and his faith is obviously very important to him.
This book doesn't even begin to do Ben Carson justice. It is sad that this book tries to provide any biographical information about someone who deserves respect and has been inspirational to a lot of people from diverse backgrounds.
Unless it was specifically targeted and written for middle school-aged children, this book is horrible. The book is incredibly simplistic, and unless you already know about the man, it does nothing to shed any new information or provide any insights. It also skips over huge portions of his life and achievements.
If this book was written for adults it's a disgrace. Don't waste your time. You'd be better off using Google and Wikipedia to learn more about such a great person as Ben Carson.
