A companion to Oliver Stone's ten-part Showtime documentary series in the tradition of Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States, this cutting-edge and provocative book challenges the status quo of American history. Multiple Academy Award-winner Oliver Stone (once called "Dostoevsky behind a camera") has directed such iconic movies as Platoon, Wall Street, JFK, Natural Born Killers, and W and is known for his often controversial point of view and probing exploration of weighty historical and political topics. Now, Stone collaborates with esteemed American University professor Peter Kuznick to present our country's "secret history," one that has been unearthed through recently discovered archives and newly declassified material. Filled with poignant photos and little-known historical facts, this book covers the rise of the American Empire and national security state from the late nineteenth century through the Obama administration, revealing how deeply rooted the seemingly aberrant policies of the Bush-Cheney administration are in the nation's past'and why it has proven so difficult for President Obama to significantly change course. By discerning patterns that have previously gone unrecognized and examining the most recently released classified documents, Stone and Kuznick challenge prevailing orthodoxies and ask questions not normally raised. The result is not the kind of history taught in schools or represented on television or in popular movies, and it will come as a surprise to the vast majority of American and global citizens, shocking and astounding both experts and history-lovers alike.

Throughout the Warren Commission Report, you won't find any mention of this, but if you examine the box of materials affiliated with that report, you'll come across the name, Pfc. Eugene B. Dinkin? Huh?
Mr. Dinkin, a great American hero, unknown, as most usually are, was in the Army's crypto section at Metz, France back in 1963. He came across a transmitted cable, which he decoded, between the CIA's section head in Rome, Italy [Bill Harvey] and a rightwing fascist paramilitary organization in France, the OAS. It was setting a date to assassinate the president [11/22 to 11/28]. He tried to pass this on, with no effect, so went AWOL to Switzerland to attempt to get various UN organizations, et cetera, to pay attention, but unfortunately he failed, and was picked up by the Army and incarcerated at the hospital stateside and given violent electro-shock treatments and schizophrenia-inducing drugs until he finally changed his story admitted he had imagined it all, repeating the story the Army psychs fed him!
Eugene B. Dinkin would later sue the government in 1975. Try to find out about it if you can?
This isn't in this book, but the other stuff is equally as great, enlightening and stomach-turning!

Most political leaders have lied excessively to their electorate/subjects. The world needs more whistleblowers to expose the dishonest, unethical crap that permeates their two-faced policies.

Reading this book has further eroded my trust in so-called government leaders. And I am severely disillusioned by the behaviour and advice of the gurus they surround themselves with.

Untold History should be read by every world citizen, but especially by those of the US and Canada.

An informative and eye-opening treatise on the history of a nation. Not an easy read, but well worth the investment of time; the last pages of this book actually gave me chills! One of the best history books I've ever read. Cudos to the authors for detailing the hidden ambitions and numerous atrocities behind the effort to construct an empire in place of a republic. Highly recommended reading.

Fascinating analysis of historical events not usually covered in standard texts. Napoleon once said that "History is a pack of lies agreed upon." Some of these lies and omissions are examined in this book and videos. I particularly liked the final chapter on Obama and the analysis of why he did/does not honor his campaign promises. Video series recently released on Showtime. First chapter available on You Tube & Yahoo. This book is an excellent compliment to Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States."

This book makes a compelling and well documented case that the world's largest funding source and organizor of global terrorism is the United States. From WW1 to Afghanistan, from President Wilson to Obama, the history of American influence of other nations to protect the interest of the super rich in America (often at the expense of America's poorest citizens both in dollars and blood) is deeply disturbing.

Neither a fast read nor an easy one, this book challenges the self important view of America.

This book sheds some light on American history and provides details that make things look a little different than we know them to be. It is also a thought provoking look at the incredible power that politicians have. It's a bit unsettling.
