They are friendly, like to be handled, don’t get too big and they are not picky about their food…sound like the kind of pet you would like at home. Or perhaps not!! It’s a friendly corn snake and a selling point is that it wouldn’t shed hair around the house!! 10-year old must make all kinds of promises before he gets his pet snake Arrow who not leave Omar’s room. The rest of the house is strictly off bounds as his mom is intensely fearful of snakes. There is a story behind her phobia that links with her past in Lebanon. Omar gets his snake from the “snake dude” – but trouble soon begins at home when Arrow goes missing. Omar is scared that his kid sister – who has already requested a monkey, a crocodile and a rhinoceros for a pet- is going to tell. Kimmel has multi-cultural characters in this book so there is a lot on learning happening between the lines. And you should be really, really interested in snakes, because Omar is one good researcher!!
