I did like how bold and dramatic Lily was because it made the story pretty entertaining at the start. But there came a point, some time when she left his country house, that the situation became a little too much. I understood her predicament and I truly do think that she reached her finacial straits because there was no one she could trust. Yet I think, overall, the story was dragged a little too long for my liking and a little over the top. Also, I didn't appreciate the name calling between the two.
While I don't love Lisa Kleypas' early stuff as much as her more recent Wallflowers series, this is still a solid Regency romance. As ever, her attention to detail is very impressive, and Lily and Alex are well matched protagonists. This was, overall, a bit angstier than I like my romances, but a reckless, headstrong heroine with lots of secrets is an entertaining anchor for a book, and this was an enjoyable read.
