This was a choice for a Mystery Book Group - it was well received and a lively discussion followed! You have to put yourself back to the 1960s to old school sleuthing - while this was a dark story, it was a good one. There are a lot of twists and turns - you could use a chart of who's who to keep them straight! Enjoy!

First published in 1968, "The Instant Enemy" is the 14th novel in the Lew Archer series. Delinquency leads to a sawed-off shotgun, assault, battery and kidnapping. Then the plot gets complicated. Author Ross Macdonald delves into the motivations of his criminal characters. IMHO, I would rate "The Instant Enemy" at 4.25 stars.
