Anything comment about the book? After all, you read it, didn't ya?

Contrary to what other reviewer apparently believes, the book series of author Andrew Kaplan (clearly a wanna be Walter Mitty type with some dubious credentials) is so my based off the Homeland TV series and is NOT a part of the Homeland TV show (which started back in 2011). The TV show is loosely based off of a previous Israeli TV series. A review of the TV show Homeland in IMDB and Wiki does not reveal ANY connection with this author.

Kaplan so my took some characters from the TV show and wove them into story lines for this novel (and subsequent ones of what appears to be his next "spy thriller" series).

See:

I have not been a fan of the TV show, watching only a few early programs early on and one here and there since then (just way too far off base for me).

The TV show however stands head and shoulders over this novel series. The stories are simply beyond improbable and seem to have been written by someone who based their opinions, plots, and characters off of poor TV shows and movies about and then wrote them up even more poorly and improbable! Much less than what one would expect from a guy who claims to have served in both the U. S. Army and the Israeli Defense Forces (back in the 1967 Six Day War yet... where is the AMERICAN service in the Vietnam War?) As well as "having served in military intelligence" and "has been repeatedly recruited by the CIA"!

From pictures I have seen, I don't know, I mean just how old is this guy? Did he serve in the IDF first and then the U.S. Army? Did he serve in the U.S. Army and then the IDF? Did he serve in the U.S. Army, take a discharge, go into the IDF, and then return to the U. S. Army (one does not get the levels he claims in a single enlistment!).

In fact, if one took an assumption of age 25 in 1967, the author - who looks barely 60 on his website - would be 73 today.

An author's credibility as based upon their (fairly vague in this case) claims is a major factor for me. If you don't have any college degree nor real military experience to speak of, and say so up front, then I have no problem... but leaving questions in that regard very often creates an uncomfortable situation in my mind... especially when coupled with frequent scenarios and techniques that I know to not be realistic in "real world environment".
