I've read 3 Jesse Stone novels. Actually I'm in the middle of reading the 3rd now. I thought I'd found a new favorite author. Especially love the dialogue. But...........I am already so sick of the endless interplay between Jesse and his ex-wife. OMG. They discuss their relationship and sex lives. And their love for each other. He professes his love for his ex-wife to whomever happens to be his current lover. On an on and on. After a while (3 books) it just becomes sick, sick and unbelievable, sick, sick, boring, repetitive, sick, sick kill her off, please.

Dreamstime's comment said what I said only he/she said it better. Love" his cohones-breaking ex-wife who is always willingly nibbling at the border of his life. "

Saw one of the movies too. Quite liked it. Liked Tom Selleck. And I've never been a Tom Selleck fan. He is too old for the character in the book but that needn't affect the role he played in the movie.

A great well-written story and then... I found the end a terrible conclusion. No spoilers so I won't go into detail. I think I've had it with Jesse Stone, the promiscuous sheriff with a strange relationship with a former wife. The story is really not about the bad and good guys, but a soap opera of llama drama between an adult teenager and his cohones-breaking ex-wife who is always willingly nibbling at the border of his life. The end of the book did not redeem enduring this nagging drama.

Another great read by Robert B. Parker! You can never go wrong with a Jesse Stone novel. Fast paced and keeps you guessing how he's going to stop the criminals right to the end!

Trouble in Paradise ---- by Robert B. Parker c - 1998 (A Jesse Stone Novel) ---- This 'Jesse Stone Novel', is a very good read! I wanted to read the story w/out a break, not a reality. ---- Dang it! I've got to live my busy life as well. Everyone should enjoy this tale. ---- Enjoy! ---- (finished 6-23-12) RichardPaul

I give it a higher rating than it should really deserve only because the story is engaging enough to distract the reader from Jesse Stone's unlikeable character and one word/sentence dialogues. His attempt to convince himself that he's not an alcoholic is laughable.

Definitely read it for the story not for the characters.
