If you can get past the ever-present testimonials and praise of the Alexander technique, and how you really need to schedule an appointment for this method of treatment, there is helpful information here. Check out the pages on on how to stand and sit so you'll be less likely to experience back & hip pain. There also a section on the deleterious effects on your body by always being in a rush. The book is definitely worth skimming if you aren't happy with your posture and would like some foundational information about how your anatomy works, how sitting for long periods in most modern furniture pretty much ruins our posture, and why so many of us have back and neck pain. But, note that this is not a workbook - it's mostly informational, and won't step you through an Alexander Technique self-help program. By the way, I don't know if there are a lot of Alexander Technique teachers in the middle section of the US, but Alexander's theory does remind me of that of Ida Rolf - and in this part of the country, there are a fair number of Rolfing practitioners.
