Most of the lyrics for Ásgeirs debut release, Dyrd í dauðathogn were written by his 73-year-old father, Icelands most revered poet. The album became Icelands best-selling local debut, outselling Bjork and Sigur Rós debuts combined and winning four Icelandic Music Awards. A staggering 1/10 Icelanders now own a copy of this album. Following Dyrd í dauðathogns runaway success, Ásgeir recorded an English version of the album, In The Silence. It has just debuted at #20 in the UK, #3 in France and was released last week on Columbia in North America, where its currently topping Billboards Next Big Sound chart. Gorgeous, rich and haunting, the airy and vibrant songs on In The Silence deftly combine electronic and organic elements with gossamer RnB production touches, flowing along with Ásgeirs unmistakable, melancholic voice. FOR FANS OF: OF MONSTERS AND MEN, SIGUR RÓS, DUSTIN TEBBUTT, JAMES BLAKE or BON IVER. Growing up in a musical family in Laugarbakki, a tiny hamlet in the wilds of Iceland (Population 40), Ásgeir developed a passion music early in life, learning guitar at six and writing his own music at nine.
