How is it somebody writes boring crap like this? How is it somebody wants to direct boring crap like this? In this case, they are one and the same. Worst of all, why does somebody commit money to pay people to actually make a boring crap movie like this? This movie would have been better titles as "The Losers" or "The Most Boring People You Never Want To Know" ... you've been warned. It's even worse than "The Snowman"...

A film with no redeeming qualities. Even the soundtrack was bad.

"The Lovers" is a movie I would have liked to like better. It had some redeeming qualities. It was too slow with too much dead space or filler. Three stars are generous for this movie.

I wanted to like this movie as I have loved Debra Winger for years, but I get tired of films that make sexual passion the most important feature in lives and relationships. Meanwhile children and friends are left in the dysfunction and sexual dust. Cannot recommend. Kristi & Abby Tabby

The world is not only made up of 20-something hipsters. I'd like to acknowledge this movie for recognizing this fact. Most of us are older than that. We have boring jobs in cubicles and our marriages may have become stale. This movie explores the life of a married couple well above 50. They are each having extramarital affairs. They are cordial to each other at home, but the passion is gone from their marriage. Or is it? They manage to rediscover each other, but is it too late? Their son comes home for the weekend and sees only hypocrisy. Is he right? Debra Winger is brilliant as the wife and is definitely the sympathetic character here. Tracy Letts as the husband is less sympathetic as his lies know no bounds.

First 30 minutes: old married couple walks on egg shells plotting their affairs
Middle 30 minutes: old married couple having sex.
Last 30 minutes: old married couple splits; son whines a lot and throws stuff.

The most revealing thing about this movie is that outside of Game Of Thrones, Aiden Gillen (Little Fingers) is a terrible actor. I've thought this before having seen him in a few other things but this performance confirms it. He actually loses and regains his accent from sentence to sentence and the director, I guess, didn't notice.

A social drama on what drove gray divorces and the 25-year-itch as a couple of empty nesters cheated on each other with their new "true" loves. In this case, it took four to tangle. The comedy component was good on how hard they had to work for their trysts at home and work. From Pew Research: In 2015, for every 1,000 married persons ages 50 and older, 10 divorced – up from five in 1990, according to data from the National Center for Health Statistics and U.S. Census Bureau. Among those ages 65 and older, the divorce rate has roughly tripled since 1990, reaching six people per 1,000 married persons in 2015.

It was good to see Debra Winger again but the film was unreal. I don't like it when the film shows the free sex without the STD's. It like showing life without the price attached to the deed, like living and never having to use the bathroom.

the cheating cheaters cheated - again
the characters are fumbling through their lives - always looking for that next spark, but always tired and late for work.
a very ironic movie - highly rated by critics - less than liked by many viewers
at Roger Ebert, Glenn Kenny said:
"The movie’s frankness about the physicality of adultery in late middle age will be much commented on, I suppose, but part of the point Jacobs seems to be making is that such things aren’t worth making a big deal over."

Ending love song for any age "It Must be Love:"

I never thought I'd miss you
Half as much as I do
And I never thought I'd feel this way
The way I feel
About you
As soon as I wake up
Every night, every day
I know that it's you I need
To take the blues away
It must be love, love, love,
It must be love, love, love,
Nothing more, nothing less
Love is the best
How can it be that we can
Say so much without words?
Bless you and bless me
Bless the bees
And the birds
I've got to be near you
Every night, every day
I couldn't be happy
Any other way
It must be love, love, love,

The cheating husband:
Please stop crying, Lucy. Please. Hey. I love you. Come on. I still... I have to get back to work, I'll get in trouble. You understand, right?
- Yeah.
Okay. Come on. I'll come to you right after work.
The cheating wife:
You got to tell me that this is true, that this is it for real this time, because... You know, I can't take it otherwise, I really can't.
-Come on. It's true, I promise. I'm gonna tell him, promise.
