A generous collection of amazing Eurocomics well worth a look. The darkly inked and phantasmagorical art influenced comics artist Keith Giffen in the 1980s and Frank Miller's Sin City stories in the 1990s. Highlights of the 11 stories reprinted here include "Vietblues," a long and downbeat meditation on race in early 1970s America; "Life Ain't A Comic Book, Baby," a subtly postmodern tale in which Alack meets his Argentinian creators; and the extra-length "Encounters," a tour de force of impressionistic storytelling.
