In The Power of Myth, journalist Bill Moyers interviews American scholar Joseph Campbell in what is now widely considered the touchstone of comparative mythology. I watched it when it first aired in 1988 and it transformed me. It was the catalyst for my lifelong love of documentaries; it got the ball rolling, and Ken Burns’ Civil War documentary sealed the deal a few years later. It also altered my basic perception of mythology and religion in a way that remains with me to this day. If you find a good philosophical discussion to be as intriguing as a good thriller, you'll love The Power of Myth.

There are significant insights presented in these six, 1985 interviews, which are relevant and meaningful today, as they are timeless. Campbell shows, through myths and religious stories across time and cultures, that at the core we are seeking not so much to know the meaning of life but to experience being fully alive.
