This book was generally an ok book. The characters weren't so well built in the book, and it got a little boring at some times. Although these things are true, it was a pet story, and everyone likes pet stories. I was a little confused at the beginning, but overall, the story was ok/good

Obviously its a personal pet peeve, but I hate it when people complain that a dog will eat them out of house and home. (especially when humans eat way more) So sorry to say but that plus the adults in the story turned me off. The grandmother is a cranky, stubborn, mean old lady. The sheriff ignores blatant clues and ignores the kid. That's not funny to me, just mean. Plus the way the dog "thought" made him sound stupid and was confusing.

Can't lose with a Spencer Quinn book if you enjoy humor and seeing a mystery through the eyes of a dog who appreciates everything! I love this author and his new character series! I'm an adult and have devoured the Chet and Bernie series; this one is geared more toward kids but was equally enjoyable. Yay, Spencer for conveying your unique understanding of how dogs (probably) think!

Set in the Louisiana swamp, and told from the point of view of the dog, this is a fun and dramatic mystery for grades 4-7.
If you like Sheila Turnage's books, try this one.
