John Gierach does not have a large population of readers to pull from but if you are a fisherman you will be hard pressed to find a more entertaining writer. He combines great story telling with knowledge of the sport and a bit of old hippie philosophy. If you are reading All Fisherman are liars on a cold, rainy December day as I am and you don't put the book down and go and check your fishing tackle and start scouring the internet for potential fishing destinations then you are not serious about fishing. Gierach doesn't just tell you where he was and what he did, he makes you long to be where he was, doing what he was doing.
