Although slow to start, I did enjoy this novel about a family moving to Newport, Rhode Island after a family tragedy in Michigan. Three sets of sisters, two living and one dead, populate this story about love, betrayal, loss, and forgiveness. Rice has a way of creating characters that deal with adversity in unusual, interesting ways. The setting, a private academy that caters to New England's upper class, adds atmosphere to the novel with its superstitions and traditions.

not the best by Luanne Rice, but ok read, held my interest, but I could put it down no problem.

This book was really good. The plot launched straight off the first page: mother and 2 teenage children headed to Rhode Island. Still grieving drowned father from a year ago and loss of oldest sister who is a runaway. Each character is clearly defined with quirks, strengths and weaknesses. The story kept my interest and had an excellent satisfying ending.
This is one of Rice's better books - not all are good.
My other 2 best favourites are Follow the Stars Home and Summer Light.
