I adore this series even if I felt poor Barry was getting a little overly distraught over missing his gal for the holidays. But the stories remain a delight as the doctors keep an eye on Ballybucklebo and all the citizens within.

This is the best book I have read in some time. It is a long story and I felt as if I was leaving friends behind when I finihed it. I am no longer a Daniel Boone user, having just relocated to the Cleveland OH. area and the first thing I did was get my library card. I picked this book up just by accident and found it delightful. My experience with Danlel Boone was a wonderful one. I will miss my time with all of you and this goes especially for you DEB in outreach.

Think of James Herriot but set in rural Ireland instead of Yorkshire, and where the patients are human instead of the four-legged kind, and you’ll have a good understanding for the atmosphere of Patrick Taylor’s books.
In this third novel we follow the young Doctor Barry Laverty as he is about to spend his first Christmas in Ballybucklebo with his mentor, Doctor Fingal Flahertie O’Reilly. As Dr. Laverty hopes that his girlfriend Patricia will make it home for Christmas, Dr. O’Reilly finds himself finally letting go of the torch he has carried for his young bride, killed in the WWII blitz of Belfast.
Together they take keep an eye on the competition - a new doctor in town who went to school with O’Reilly – take care of the villagers’ usual and unique ailments, and even work a few old fashioned Christmas miracles...
