So bad, I skimmed many of the pages of this piece of overlong poorly written trash. The two main characters had the maturity of sixteen year olds with the male detective one of the stupidest characters I have ever encountered. If you like…
600 pages of self absorbed drivel by lead character. So many police procedural errors it was a joke. Not recommended unless you have time to read a lot of reintegration.

Having completed this book, I can now see why it was chosen for a STARS feature-series. As a book it doesn't rate tops to me; the beginning was a meandering of existential thoughts and the end started to regress into more self-focus…

Dark and dense, unreliable narrator, very Irish noir. If you like the Swedish mysteries for their dark moral ambiguities then step into the the emotional quagmire of Irish angst. French could be Banville's younger hipper sister.

An entertaining crime story with twists and turns -- some twists I didn't see coming and some I did. I also thought Tana French was taking me down a certain road, only to be mistaken (At one point I thought there was going to be a…

Tana French is one of the best mystery writers out there. Not only is she a beautiful writer, but she creates complex characters and intriguing plots. The unreliability of memory and the slippage between truth and lies are focal points…

This book truly had potential but I felt like the author dragged it on way too much. Still upset over all the character's endings and there was no resolution to one of the main events. Loved the concept but needed more stability.

Sometimes reviews call novels gripping. This one really is. I stayed up most of the night reading this. It made it hard to sleep for days, thinking about it. She's an amazing writer!

A crackling good read, with the depth of character and twisted but deeply human plotting that Tana French will display through her career after this debut.

I figured out the current murderer less than halfway through. The lack of resolution for the old murders was BS. I'm going to read a second book by this author to see if this was a fluke. If not, done with this author. Reader beware.

This book was exhaustingly long, 542 pgs, published in 2007, with lots of descriptives. Good story though and fine if you're a speed reader, which I am not. I like to savor every word but this book was a bit much for me.

I like the intensity of French's writing and that she always sets her works to explore some aspect of Irish life. This book is not my favourite. A lot of the different characters' actions strain credulity, there is some supernatural…
I listened to this book and it was way too long. Too many long thoughts by the main character and confusing at times. I was very disappointed in the ending because one crime, although it was solved, the perpetrator was not punished and the…
