During the month of October, I like to read books “in tune’ with the lead up to Halloween. The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane fits the bill.

I couldn't put this book down! Katherine weaves a story of intrigue and suspense, alternating between the 17th century Salem, MA and the current day. Looking forward to reading more about Connie in The Daughters of Temperance Hobbs.

This book was a real treat to read. I have always been interested in witchcraft and in its social and economic implications, so when I read that this novel was in part about the Salem witch trials, I immediately placed a hold. The…

I really enjoyed reading this book the first time I heard about it and am having just as much fun rereading! I'm getting back in the witchy mood in time for Howe's new book called The Daughters of Temperance Hobbs. The Physick book is…

I loved this book! I read it when it came out and came back to it 10 years later. I enjoyed it the second time just as much as the first.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad she did. It is a book that I constantly come back to as a recommendation for people or a comparison of a good book.

An ok read. I found it a bit predictable but it was still better than anything on TV that night!

One of my favorite books. I have read it more than a few times. The characters are relateable and I loved how believable and interesting the history is. Highly recommend.

It's hard to believe that The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane is a debut novel. Katherine Howe weaves multiple narratives together, creating an engaging story of colonial 1690's life as well as early 1990's academic life in New England.…

This book starts out a bit slow but becomes more compelling with each passing page. The story alternates between the present day Boston/Salem area and the Salem Mass. witch trials of the 1640's. Deliverance Dane is a woman put on trial for…

1. After the first few chapters, the protagonist became limp and silly. Howe seemed to be describing more of a teenager than an independent adult, which threw me a little. 2. Plus, the romance between Sam and Connie is not at all…

I'm on board with acupcakelol, although I forced myself to read this one as a purchases it on kobo and felt I had to...it was a long road and in the end I felt it wasn't worth it at all. The characters are unlikable, the flashbacks are…

It's a LONG read. The story itself is interesting but they don't get to the point. The reading words or vocal is very high. The explanations are long and through. However, the details make the book long and tedious. It's a good book but…

Not a bad read. Some parts were a bit nauseating, but if you get past the cutesy romance, there are some really great elements to this book. There was just enough historical content to pique interest and I appreciated Howe's attention to…

An enjoyable read, fascinating to learn about the Salem witch trials. Kind of a neat little twist at the end too!

This book started off really well, but fell into a lot of cliches by the end. However, it was interesting and fairly well written, and piqued my interest in Salem Witch Trials historical fiction.

There were parts of this book I really enjoyed, but mostly it was predictable and the protagonist remarkably dimwitted for a PhD candidate. What really irritated me (very mild spoiler ahead) is that the central "hunt" in the book ends…

Easily the best book I've read this year! I loved the writing style, the story, and the element of historical fiction. Definitely a book thats nearly impossible to put down but one you hate to read to quickly because you don't want it to…

As someone who is only peripherally familiar with what went on during the Salem witch trials, I was intrigued by the array of unfamiliar historical tidbits the author wove into this story.

An interesting book, if a little predictable. After studying the Salem Witch trials in highschool, I found the "Interlude" chapters, which provided the historical back story, to be intriguing. This, in addition to my love for New…

A young grad student, Connie, spends the summer readying her grandmonther's house for sale and finds a strange clue in an old Bible - an old key with a scrap of paper inside it saying two words - Deliverance Dane. What this means to…

I liked the genealogical aspects of this multi- layered historical fiction, watching Connie unravel the mystery of her grandmother's house and what she finds there. Sometimes I was reminded of one of my favorite literary mysteries, A. S.…
