Not bad at all for a first novel / mystery. The characters are engaging. Though I partially guessed the murderer, the story was very intriguing. (The first book in the Lady Julia Grey series) Recommend!! Kristi & Abby Tabby

Read this one on a rainy day with a cup of tea! The first in a series, this novel introduces us to the investigative partnership between Lady Julia Grey and Nicholas Brisbane. Mystery with a touch of romance.

I really enjoyed this story, but as mentioned in other reviews it did tend to drag in places. For the time it was set it, the story dealt with some quite modern issues. Was also written in a style that was colourful and you couldn't help…

A really fun, frothy mystery with a great heroine in Lady Julia Grey. For those who continue on with the series, I cannot give the later books the same ringing endorsement--the relationship between the two main characters becomes…

I'm loving this series! It is a perfect mix of mystery, historical fiction and romance. I also love reading about a strong independent woman in a time period where they are generally in short supply. The plot and setting reminds me of…

One of the greatest opening lines ever.

This was okay. It started out promising but by the end was becoming ridiculous. For a better mystery series, I would recommend "The Blackstone Key" by R. A. Melikan. This one didn't seem very believable even though the author tried hard. I…

An excellent debut novel in the style of Tasha Alexander's "Lady Emily" novels, but different enough to be not just another knock-off. Good characterization, plenty of red herrings (I suspected the true murderer once or twice early on,…

I really enjoyed this book, I felt that it dragged on in some areas but all together it was great. The title made me a little worried that it was going to be all about death and haunting but it wasn't, there was death but the author…

I'm always a fan of historical murder mysteries, but throw in: an eccentric widow, her eclectic family, and some simmering tension with a scowly investigator and I am in love. Lady Julia Grey is an interesting character and htough the…

Well written mystery novel like a good Sherlock Holmes tale of Victorian England. Intricate plot, smart heroine & intriguing detective all makes for an entertaining & engrossing read.

Wow! Could not put this book down, I found it so entertaining. Lady Julia Grey is a complex woman, trying to balance the impulses of eccentricity and daring from her family lineage, and the expectations of Victorian English society. She is…

This was a great book! I really liked the way the story unfolded. There are great plot changes as you go and an unexpected end to the story. And good for Julia, a woman stepping outside the female traditional role in a time when they…
